( not a surprising answer, ultimately. though, just having a stern talk with someone willing to destroy a church in a fit of passion seems like a waste of energy. Matt doesn't see it going anywhere. he doesn't see much success in him sniffing out the responsible party, either — and he'd be tempted to do a lot more than just talk if he figured out who did it. )

At this point, I think we'd be better off fixing what we can of the church. Maybe I'm wrong and it was a spirit. It wouldn't be the first time they used their abilities to toy with us.

Well, yes, we'll build and rebuild as necessary.

Won't do if we just... let it be destroyed. And the poor spirit who lives underneath...

I'm not sure that's something a stern talking to would stop.

( he's also not sure Aziraphale has the capacity to be stern, but that's neither here nor there. )

They get up to all sorts of things. The siren set them off when we were reconnecting the lighthouse, for awhile people were having dreams from their perspectives. When I first arrived there was a hoarde of spirit rats eating everything in town. They may or may not have the capacity to leave eerie messages on the tablets. I'm not sure what motivates them, exactly, but they can get up to all sorts of things.

I think they're all hiccups more than anything.

[ He turns and stops to explain. ]

I don't think they're in control of whatever is causing some of these things.

I think... whatever is bringing us here, it's unstable. Must be, I don't think this is how things are meant to be.

But... then, it stands to reason that things might be... out of hand.
