Character Name: Aziraphale, uses the alias AZ Fell and sometimes Angel (but only if Crowley says it.)
Age: Appears to be about 50. Is in actuality ageless and somewhere over six thousand.
Canon: Good Omens.

World Description: In Good Omens canon, the Earth is six thousand years old and the events of the bible are mostly true, if filtered through human misconceptions. Most of Good Omens is centered on the Apocalypse, though there is a half hour dedicated to Aziraphale and Crowley living through the entire six thousand years and detailing their part in human history.

CRAU: N/A.

Death: At the very end of Good Omens, Aziraphale catches a prophecy suggesting that he and Crowley should switch bodies. They do and avert dying, since each of them are impervious to the method that would kill the other. In this alternate universe, Aziraphale received no such prophecy and the both of them meet their doom the way that Heaven and Hell had intended. Aziraphale, punished for averting the Apocalypse and fraternizing with the demon Crowley, is sentenced to death by Hellfire.

What are your plans for this character in-game? I think I will want him to explore around and try to settle into his new life. He will be sulking for a bit due to his death signifying that the last efforts he made in canon are essentially going to be undone, but will try to be positive that there is an after-afterlife at all. Once settled, he will try to make the most out of his forced "retirement." He might also try to hatch a plan to return to Earth and stop the second coming of the Antichrist, but he's got at least ten years to do that and hopefully will be too busy with whatever else is going on.

I also think that the nature of the horror and exploration elements of the game will require Aziraphale to interact with everyone on a longer-term scale than he has to interact with others in Good Omens, and I'd like him to make more than one friend! Additionally, he will probably try to counsel people on their deaths, even as he tries to come to terms with his own.


What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? I do want to try him against more psychogical horrors, since he is used to being around Hellish beings and will generally find any spooky things more of a mild annoyance than actually frightening.

Since Aziraphale's powers encompass light, healing, resurrection and possibly flight, I would also like to have him come to terms with how his powers no longer work like they used to, and maybe he can undergo some personal character growth from not being able to rely on them as often.

And I think once a mystery starts unfolding that I'd like to play with those elements as well, since I personally just really love puzzles.

How does your character generally get along with other people? Aziraphale likes humans in a general sense, and likes very specific humans as well. He shows them sympathy and generally likes to protect them and give them blessings and peace, but despite his love for them, he also typically has the immortal-influenced idea that they are just a little bit disposable on an individual level. However, his most prized possessions are his books, which are essentially immortalizations of an author's thoughts. He finds the humans to be fascinating and is drawn to their creativity and their ingenuity. Though Aziraphale is an introvert, he will work decently well together with others if there is a stressful situation at hand that needs his attention. He is very polite, and comes off as mild-mannered and kind, if a bit dramatic and nervous.

What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? He was killed for fraternizing with a demon, and conspiring with him to (successfully) stop Armageddon from happening, so naturally he will be very concerned and distraught that his fighting will have been for naught and that Heaven and Hell will just try again in several years' time.

However, as an Angel, he does understand the permanence of Death and will be at least grateful that there is an after-afterlife for him to partake in. Eventually, he will just have to come to terms with having given his life for what he thought was the right thing to do, and that in the end this was God's plan for him.

Skills/Abilities: Supernatural
He has the power of miracles, which generally means that things just improbably happen: he never makes reservations, always happens to catch the bus, etc. He can also fix or upgrade objects by willing them to do so, as well as materialize clothes or clean a surface. He can bless someone, which will serve to give them a little bit of improbable protection, or make holy water.

His miracle powers that will need to be nerfed are his power to revive (unusable), his power to summon celestials (unusable), power to conjure up fire and light (unusable) and his power to heal. Please let me know what he might be able to achieve, because he can mend broken bones and human sicknesses. His ability to keep plants fresh and to make flowers spontaneously bloom may also need to be nerfed.

The powers I will need to throw up a permission post for are his powers of empathy. He can sense positive emotions like love, and he can also spread positive emotions. If needed, he can make a very strong suggestion, though he never does so unless it is for self-defense.

He has wings that he folds into hammerspace, and there is an implication that he can fly (this will definitely be nerfed!)

He additionally requires nothing to survive (food, air, water, sleep) and is ageless.

Regular
He speaks/reads/writes numerous languages, most of them not modern. He can dance the gavotte. And he believes he can do some magic with sleight-of-hand (he is terrible.)

Flaws/Weaknesses: Aziraphale undergoes a lot of character growth throughout the mini-series of Good Omens that stems from him starting to lose his faith in God refusing to take his call and the angels wishing for Armageddon at the cost of the Earth. But even though he has improved, he is still a repressive character, often eschewing his own feelings when the matter of what he thinks is right doesn't coincide with what Heaven wants. This manifests in a chaotic, wildly fluctuating energy as he goes back and forth deciding who to trust with what information.

He is almost overly-obsessed with appearance in this regard, tending to find it easier to accept Crowley's amoral plans when they correspond to being able to pass off positive outcomes to the Upstairs. But he is also a being of creature comforts, keeping his clothes in working condition for centuries, having a very particular haircut for his entire existence, being well-manicured, etc. He once dressed up in aristocratic clothes during the Reign of Terror and was scheduled to be executed; his excuse was that he "has standards."

Often pulling frivolous miracles -- to have enough coin to buy snacks during a show, or to set fire to a parking ticket -- he was reprimanded for doing just that, because he is heavily reliant on reality bending itself on his account.

He is an incredibly stubborn individual, and sometimes is either so self-important or otherwise focused that he ignores others around him. He is used to things going his way, or being able to manipulate a situation otherwise, and often gets upset when he's forced out of his comfort zone. That's part of the reason why he usually never leaves it, preferring instead an unchanging, slow life.

Aziraphale is also not the greatest liar, possibly in part because he already has a nervous, conflicted energy, and in part because he always wears his emotions on his face. He also shoulders guilt very easily even though he is a rulebreaker, and it compounds his stresses.


Personality: Aziraphale does have a history of protecting humans, and by nature is kind and altruistic. He is first shown on-screen having given away his weapon to Adam and Eve after they had been cast out from Eden, and lies to God to cover it up. He later argues with the angels that the humans can be saved if they just do something about the Antichrist, and is disappointed and disturbed when he discovers that the other angels are completely impassive to the humans' fate.

Though he seems altogether unassuming and "soft" as he puts it, he is also capable of doing scary things when pushed; we see glimpses of this when he banishes the guard keeping them from entering the airbase, and when wielding Shadwell's gun as Madam Tracy. Occasionally he gives in to doing something a little bratty, like setting a parking ticket on fire, but he is usually aware of the magnitude of his powers. And although he is a pacifist, he easily slips into a fighting stance when given his sword, and is high enough ranking to be a commanding officer. He does prefer less conflict and to appeal to characters' reason rather than to fight them outright. And when he is feeling bold, he is commanding: arguing with the Metatron to put God on the line, and interrupting Gabriel to say his piece.

Aziraphale is not the biggest fan of change, and although it seems as if he had caught up with the fashions and times until the late 1800s, he appears to sometimes be stuck in the Victorian era with his manner of dress and home furnishings. He still uses a rotary dial and on one occasion refers to a bicycle as a velocipede, doesn't listen to popular music written after the 1950s, and has not changed his hairstyle in 6,000 years. But he is cultured in most things old, being a lover of the written word and classical music.

Often petty and sometimes sassy, Aziraphale is not mean-spirited and has a pretty even temper, but not the patience of a saint, particularly when crunched for time.

He is also intelligent, well-read and perceptive, though because of his incompetence, he is often underestimated by his superiors and seen as sort of bumbling, harmless, and too caught up in his own navel-gazing to be much of a threat. It is possibly because of this that the Upstairs doesn't suspect any foul play when he and Crowley switch places - they don't think him capable of hatching such a plan!
